Pastor To People

Pastor Arthur Craig

Abraham had lived for 140 years. God had blessed him spiritually and materially. Now he wanted make sure the right bride was chosen for his son Isaac. In this passage of scripture, Genesis 24:1-9 we see a beautiful picture of the Heavenly Father choosing a bride, the church, for his son, Christ. Abraham trusted that God would provide the right woman for Isaac. Isaac was God’s precious possession. Abraham had laid him on the altar before the Lord as a young boy fully trusting that God would provide a substitute offering.

Isaac’s wife must come from within the family of God. She must not be one of the heathen women. No doubt there were many choices among the foreign women since Isaac was a rich man. But this was against God’s will. “Only in the Lord,” is the command in 2 Cor. 6:14-18. Abraham would rather Isaac remain single than go back to Ur for a wife, or marry one of the Canaanite women.

God chose us, the church, to be married to his son, Jesus Christ. He is preparing us for the great wedding feast. He desires that we become pure and holy as He is holy. When we stray away to pursue our own pleasures of the world we commit spiritual adultery and we miss the blessings of a holy God blessed relationship.

In this blessed relationship the church can be powerful, full of joy, and grace. When Jesus is not Lord over the church, we become unhappy, weak, and ineffective. Today God is calling us to holiness and faithfulness to our groom, the Lord Jesus Christ!
